A traditional Moroccan kessa mitt in 100 % viscose crepe — a dense, deliberately rough weave that grips dead surface skin and rolls it away under pressure. It slips over one hand like an oven mitt, so you work with your whole palm and never lose grip when it's wet.

Viscose replaces the goat hair used in the oldest versions. That makes it vegan, machine washable, and far more hygienic — it dries fast and doesn't hold bacteria the way a loofah or a sponge does.

How to use

The mistake almost everyone makes is using it like a washcloth. Don't. Soap kills it — lather makes the mitt slide instead of grip, and you'll get nothing.

  1. Soak first. Stand under hot water or sit in a warm bath for 5–10 minutes. Steam softens the dead layer. This step is not optional; skip it and the mitt does almost nothing.
  2. Turn the water off. Skin should be damp, not running wet. No soap, no shower gel, no oil.
  3. Scrub in long firm strokes, one direction, working upward from the ankles. Firm pressure — but stop short of anything that stings.
  4. You'll see grey rolls come off. That's the dead layer. It's meant to happen, and it's oddly satisfying.
  5. Rinse, then wash normally if you want. Moisturise or oil straight after, on damp skin.

Frequency: once or twice a week. Every day is too much — you'll strip the barrier and end up worse off than when you started.
